Le Centre International d’Agriculture Tropicale (CIAT) et son programme HarvestPlus ont organisé ce lundi 10 Août dernier à Cirunga chef lieu du territoire de Kabare, une campagne de sensibilisation et de dissémination de semences des cultures biofortifiées (Maïs et Haricot) dans la province du Sud-Kivu.
En collaboration avec le projet PICAGL-Banque Mondiale en partenariat avec IITA et le projet FSP Enyanya/Mercy Corps, CIAT HarvestPlus veut informer et éduquer les ménages agricoles et les concessionnaires-agrimultiplucateurs sur les valeurs agronomiques et nutritionnelles des
cultures Biofortifiées.
Le mot du lancement a été prononcé au nom du gouverneur de province par le ministre provincial de l’agriculture, Marcellin Amani Bahaya.
Le Mwami Désiré Rughemaninzi Kabare, chef de la chefferie de Kabare a remercié le gouvernement provincial et CIAT-HarvestPlus pour le choix de son fief comme entité pilote de l’agriculture au Sud-Kivu.
Les responsables de PICAGL, de l’IITA, Mercy Corps, FAO, RICOLTO, SENASEM et SNV ont tous recommandé les ménages agricoles et les concessionnaires-agrimultiplicateurs qui ont reçu une bonne connaissance sur les cultures Biofortifiées de la mettre en pratique pour que ces cultures puissent amélioré leur alimentation.
Ces ménages agricoles et concessionnaires-agrimultiplicateurs doivent s’engager, s’approprier et pérenniser les acquis de PICAGL, Mercy Corps et HarvestPlus dans la filière sémencière des cultures Biofortifiées.
C’est sur l’approche Zéro-Gratuité dans la production et la Dissémination des semences des cultures Biofortifiées que CIAT-HarvestPlus et ses partenaires vont pratiquer autrement l’agriculture au Sud-Kivu.
